Near Yonder: The Circle

In this spiritual vignette, a Mongolian shaman performs a ritual with smoke for people in Brooklyn. Each person came for different purposes, be it healing, deeper understanding, or spiritual transformation. The title of this short fictional piece could refer to either the full moon that fills the opening scene or the circle of lying bodies that surround the shaman.

On Near Yonder, from director Laurie Bartley: These stories traverse themes of time, dream states, afterlife, healing, and consciousness. I was particularly driven by phenomena that were once entirely mystical and deemed hocus-pocus but are now being reconsidered and analyzed by a growing number of those within the scientific establishment; phenomena such as the survival of consciousness after bodily death, reincarnation, and near-death experiences.
